Against The Grain was a quick read with some valuable concrete and specific points. The author did tell his story, but did so briefly and while making the point that sometimes doing the uncomfortable, or what other people are not doing, is the right way to go. It reminds me of the "givers get" concept - have faith and do what you feel is right and you'll get yours.
Sandwiched in the middle of the philosophy portion of this book is a section on usable and specific Sales Techniques that are well-summarized, and held up as examples. One could take these and immediately improve, no matter what their business or purpose.
Overall a good, valuable read.
Already bought this book earlier, but I love it and wanted to have it on my business account as well as personal.
Author is doing thremendous job explaining how sale works psychologically and what to do to close and earn that commission.
Moreover he is showing examples from real estate and book signings, among others. You can hardly find more opposite examples.
I have learned a lot and would heartily recommend the book to any of my friends.
If you arent selling yet, do yourself a favour and start with this book... you can thank me later.
"Against the Grain" impresses on every level. It has a compelling story about one man's journey as a salesman, a unique take on numerous sales principles and a lot of worthwhile philosophy about how to live in the world. The book will be of particular interest to author/publishers. Nearly the entirety of the second half of the book is devoted to book promotion. The results the author has achieved are astounding and the methods he used interesting and elegant. A worthy read.
THis book is primarily for salesmen./women should be good for them tho. In my area of writing, I could find nothing of value in this book.
I'm a recent fan, trying to catch up. So far, I've liked all that I've read. Very diverse author, from hit men to old time cowboys in the modern world. Loved the lessons taught in this book
Finally got a chance to read this. This book is good for basic sales skills. It cuts to the bone and gives sales people what they need to either start their careers or as a refresher.
This book is very readable, and has great examples and explanations for anyone selling anything. Even the theory is presented in non-academic plain English. I recommend this book to anyone who has something to sell.
